When his entire family is attacked by demons and his sister transformed, Tanjiro vows that he will do whatever it takes to change her back. Together, they will battle demons, make friends, and doggedly hunt down the man responsible.
Demon Slayer is an absolutely breathtaking anime. From the heart stopping animation to the amazing voice acting (both sub and dub), it will absolutely captivate you. The story and characters are so well crafted, every single moment written and directed to perfection with never a moment leaving you filling bored or underwhelmed. The dark seriousness of the story and the ever looming presence of the sinister creator of the demons is balanced out by more light hearted and humorous moments, allowing you to take a breather before tossing you back into the fray. Even greater is the bonds created between the characters, especially that of Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko. Every moment they are on screen together, you can see and feel their absolute devotion to one another.
The older brother temperament of our main protagonist, is something to be admired, and you will find yourself moved by his compassion even when you think he shouldn’t have any left in him. The way he works with the ever fearful Zenitsu and the hot headed, wild child Inosuke will touch your heart and leave you smiling. Even more so is how he views demons, how he is able to look past their exterior and into their hearts. His ability to transform his pain into something good, to find the light even in the darkest of times, is incredibly motivating. Tanjiro and Nezuko are, much like Deku from My Hero Academia, characters who change those around them without realizing it. They walk through their world, creating ripples that branch out and touch others.
Something I also loved, was seeing the world from the view of the demons. The creators of this magnificent show did an excellent job of helping me empathize with creatures I should be seeing as the enemy, as monsters. Instead of just setting them up to be mindless, drooling beasts, they instead showed the pain, sorrow, and horrors of being a demon. It was beautifully done and showcased what it means for one to lose their humanity.
Even though I was late getting to this anime, I have to say that I absolutely loved it. I couldn’t get enough of it and once season one was over, I was left with a Demon Slayer shaped void. It had me crying and laughing, cheering and getting angry, it hit my emotions with the force of a freight train and had me locked in from episode one. If you haven’t given this anime the time, I ask that you do. It’s so worth it and I know you will fall in love with the characters and the world in the same way I did.
